KATHMANDU: A meeting of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UMDF) on Saturday held discussions on the remaining contentious issues in the constitution-drafting.

The meeting that was chaired by Front President and Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar discussed matters relating to state restructuring, forms of governance and electoral system, among others.

The meeting also dwelt on the latest political developments after the recent Hattiban meeting of the major political parties.

Talking to RSS after the meeting, UMDF leader Jitendra Dev stressed the need of a 'constitutional court' until and unless the federalism was institutionalised.

The UMDF is in favour of the provision of electing the lower house representatives through the proportional and direct electoral system, he added.

The big parties should come up with clear view on the state restructuring issues, stressed leader Yadav, adding that the State Restructuring Commission's report should be followed while restructuring the country.

He further said that it would be better to adopt the mixed system instead of wasting time in the discussion on the forms of governance.
