House in quest for curbing caste discrimination

KATHMANDU: Stakeholders have stressed on the effective implementation of laws and policies formed by the government to reduce the ethnic-based discrimination.


Members of the Sub-committee formed by the Committee on Women, Children, and Social Welfare of the Legislature-Parliament held discussion regarding strategies to control the caste based discrimination.


The representatives of political parties, Dalit youth, and various government and non-government organisations stressed for implementing the Crime and Punishment Act-2068' to control such discriminations.


They also suggested that programmes related to education, employment generating, health services, and others should be conducted to end the discriminations by targeting the communities concerned.


Chairman of Nepal Students' Union Ranjit Karna said that government, parliament and stakeholders should join hands to end the century old ill practice.


Likewise, general secretary of Christian Federation C B Gahatraj demanded provision of stern action against the perpetrators involved in caste based discrimination.


Coordinator of the sub-committee Binod Pahadi said that preparations are underway to distribute relief amount to the couple having inter caste marriage with the initiative of the sub-committee.
