Baidya faction’s demand

15th May :

Kathmandu, Nepal--

The United People´s Movement Committee (UPMC) led by UCPN Maoist’s dissident faction leaders Mohan Baidya, who is also the senior Vice-chairman of the party, submitted signatures of people from across the country to Speaker of the Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang, demanding timely promulgation of the constitution on Monday.

With the signature the UPMC has also handed over the 21-point memorandum to Nembang, demanding guarantee of special rights to women, Dalits and Muslims for certain time in the constitution.

Likewise, the UPMC has also sought implementation of the Article 169 of the International Labor Organization that relates to the rights of indigenous people.

Interestingly, the Points in the 21-point memorandum are almost the same issues that the Maoist had raised before lunching the decade long insurgency.

Contradicting the party line, the UPMC has also demanded that new constitution should be authorized single-identity based provinces to enjoy autonomy and self-governance.
