No statute sans consensus govt‚ says leader Deuba

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba stressed the need on forming the national consensus government to write the new constitution.


Inaugurating the national gathering of the Federation of Non-governmental Organisation here today, he said it is irrational to claim leadership by the Unified CPN-Maoist saying it was the biggest political party as the nation was remained in the constitution less condition for the last four years.


He added that the constitution should be written only after the formation of the national consensus government.


He appreciated the non-government organisations’ role saying they are direct and effective medium to reach people. He added that it is necessary to make the NGOs effective in the present situation when the NGOs are stronger than the government.


Similarly, NC leader Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat stressed the need for running the NGO activities in democratic systems and procedures.


Dr. Mahat claimed that the donor agencies in the country has encouraged the politics of separation in the name of carrying out researches and analyse the life and culture of various indigenous communities and said the nation should be alert from such activities.


Chairman of the organisation Dr. Balgopal Baidya, central member Ramesh Dhamala, Ashok Yogi, among others, said only the fewer programmes were taken to grassroots stressing NGOs should not be run under the party influence.


Representatives from some 60 districts have been participating in the gathering, it is learnt.
