Economic Transparency of UCPN-Maoist questioned
7th Aug
: Kathmandu, Nepal--
The communist leaders who used to claim to follow the principles of Marxism, Leninism and Maoism live normal life as they themselves declare as guardian of proletariats who are oppressed and exploited under different pretext. Living lavish lifestyle is against the principles and practices of communist parties around the world. They will not remain communist leaders and communist parties which live sophisticated life.
Against these benchmarks, the communist leaders in Nepal are doing business in the name of politics of proletarians.
The UCPN-Maoist's leadership is questioned regarding the economic transparency that it should have maintained during the decade-long people's war and aftermath of the signing in the Comprehensive Peace Accord with the government. Moreover, the recent plenum of the party that concluded in the Capital decided to form an inquiry commission under the leadership of its central leader Amik Sherchan. The party leadership was compelled to announce such commission as the party cadres massively criticized the party fund embezzlement without maintaining transparency.
The Maoists ascended to the government by disseminating the commitment of transparency, social justice, equality, the rule of proletariat and so on. But their commitments have now proved that they were merely in a propaganda campaign to capture the power. It is ridiculous to state that a communist party needed to form an inquiry commission to look into the cases of party funds embezzlement by the party's central leadership. The party cadres had criticized the party leadership including the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal himself of being less transparent in the economic issue. This proves that party funds needs to be transparent as the ultimate sources of the party fund are the people. Thus misusing the people's fund is against the democratic principle and accountability to the people.
The complaints against the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist have been lodged in the party headquarters.
The financial issue should be made clear with through investigation. Fizzling out the financial issues under different pretext will not be excused. The concerned authority including the Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority and the Election Commission should take initiation to maintain transparency within the political parties in Nepal.
Otherwise, people will punish them during the election period as the ultimate judges of any political parties are the people. Therefore, periodic election is a must for democratic practices.
