Number of women visiting health institutions for maternity services on rise

BAGLUNG, Aug 22: Number of women giving birth to babies in health institutions has increased in Baglung district after the government managed a system to provide encouragement amount along with free health service for the women giving birth in health institutions.


Women started to go to health institutions for maternity services after listed maternity centers were established in the villages with the purpose of providing safe maternity service.


A total of 2,049 women took the safe maternity service at 20 listed maternity centers under the District Health Office in the district and Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital in the last fiscal year.The Hospital said that around 100 women visit the hospital for maternity service every month.


Medical Superintendent at the Hospital, Dr. Tarun Paudel, said that 70 women gave birth to child through caesarean operation in the last year after the Hospital also started to provide maternity services through caesarean.


According to senior public health officer, Sagar Dahal, the number of women visiting maternity centers is on rise after safe maternity service is being provided by trained health workers.


The number is on rise after the government managed encouragement amount to the women who give birth at the health institutions, Dahal said.


The government under the Maternity Care Programme has arranged a system of providing Rs. 1,000 as transportation fare to women giving birth at the listed maternity centers of 75 districts across the nation.


Health institutions have been providing all services free of cost to women visiting health centers for the service.
