BIRATNAGAR, JUL 27 -

Nepali Congress (NC) central member Pradeep Giri said on Tuesday that constitution writing would be impossible in the remaining 10-month tenure of the Constituent Assembly if the political parties continue to wrangle for power.

Speaking at a programme organised by Morang chapter of Nepal Press Union, Giri said the NC should come with new views to form the government under its leadership.

He said a consensus government could not be formed due to leaders’ ambition for power and conflict between the classes they are representing.

He said the major parties -- NC, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) -- should focus on constitution writing process rather than government formation.

Lawmaker Giri said leadership for the government should not be given to Maoist Chairman Prachanda as he has a bias against democracy. He added that it is not necessary to lead the government to write constitution.

Saying that the major parties should not sideline Madeshi parties during constitution writing and government formation, Giri said Madheshi front should not be suspicious about the talks among the three major parties.
