KATHMANDU, NEPAL : The 67th National Democracy Day is being observed across the country by organizing various programs.
Nepal observes National Democracy Day on Falgun 7 in commemoration of the establishment of democracy on Falgun 7 in 2007 BS.
Democracy was established in the country in the first time in Nepal overthrowing the 104 years long Rana regime. The people of the country had not only waged struggle but sacrificed their lives to establish democracy in the country.
During the course of the struggle for democracy, Shukraraj Shastri, Dasharath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema and Ganga Lal Shrestha had laid down their lives. The Rana rulers had executed them on the charge of running public campaigns for democracy.
The Nepali Congress had launched an armed struggle under the leadership of BP Koirala demanding democracy in the country. Democracy was established in the country from the support of the monarchy on 7 Falgun 2007 BS after a long struggle against the Rana regime.
