Dhangadhi, Nepal: Resham Chaudhary, the alleged mastermind of Tikapur carnage has been sent to police custody after interrogation at Kailali district court on Monday.

Federal Parliament member-elect Chaudhary, who was on the run after being charge-sheeted for his alleged key role in Tikapur carnage, had surrendered before the Kailali District Court in Dhangadhi on Monday morning.

Police had been searching Chaudhary in the alleged charge of mastermind of the Tikapur carnage. In the carnage occurred on the name of Tharuhat agitation on August 23, 2015 demanding a separate province, eight security personnel including then Seti Zonal Police Chief SSP Laxman Neupane and a two-year-old toddler were killed.

Despite the allegation of masterminding the Tikapur carnage, Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) had given ticket him to vie as a candidate of the member of the federal parliament. In the election, he was elected with a wide margin of 20,935 votes from Kailali constituency number 1.

Though he was elected as the federal parliament member, his election certificate is not distributed yet. Election Commission has not giving him his victory certificate responding to the police investigation.

Challenging to the decision of the Election Commission, Chaudhary had tried to register a writ petition at the Supreme Court through his wife Ranjita Chaudhary demanding issuance of his victory certificate.

But the Supreme Court had also refused to register the writ petition stating that he has to face the court to be eligible to receive the certificate as member of the federal parliament.
