Guwahati, Oct 24 : Independent candidate Chakat Aboh, the wife of NPP leader Tirong Aboh who was shot dead in May, won the by-poll to Khonsa West assembly seat.
 
Chakat Aboh had won the seat by defeating Independent candidate Azet Homtok by a margin of 1887 votes. 
 
Chakat Aboh secured 5705 votes while her nearest rival Azet Homtok received 3818 votes.
 
It is to be mentioned that, Chakat Aboh's husband Tirong Aboh was gunned down by suspected NSCN militants along with others including his son.
 
The by-poll for the Khonsa West seat was necessitated following Tirong Aboh's death.
 
Earlier ruling BJP, opposition parties Congress, JD(U), NPP and the PPA had decided that none of them will field any candidate against Chakat Aboh.
