Kathmandu, Nepal, May 24, 2021: As many as 146 lawmakers of the opposition parties- Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) Upendra Yadav-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and the dissident faction of the ruling CPN UML have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, on Monday demanding restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) and appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as the new Prime Minister.

The petitioners have demanded to reinstate the dissolved parliament, appoint the NC president Deuba as the new Prime Minister as per the Article 76 (5) of the constitution and scrap the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).

Following the recommendation of the Prime Minister K P Oli, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had on last Saturday dissolved the parliament and announced a midterm election for November 12 and November 19. The opposition parties have protested the government’s move to dissolve the parliament from different levels. 

 In the writ petition, 61 lawmakers belong to the Nepali Congress, 48 to the CPN (Maoist Center), 23 to the ruling CPN-UML and 12 to the JSP and one to the Rastriya Janamorcha Party have signed.

The lawmakers belong to the UML include as Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Ghanashyam Bhusal,  Birodh Khatiwada, , Jhapat Rawal, Krishna Lal Maharjan, Jiwanram Shrestha, Deepak Prakash Bhatta, Som Prasad Pandey, Narayan Khatiwada, Yagya Raj Sunuwar, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, Met Mani Chaudhari, Ram Kumari Jhankri,  Pushpakumari Karna Kayastha, Lakshmi Kumari Chaudhari, Sarala Kumari Yadav,  Kalyani Khadka, Nira Devi Jairu and Kalila Khatoon.
