Guwahati: Another bizarre incident has came to light after, aretired army personnel from Assam’s Barpeta district was reportedly servedwith a notice from the Foreigners Tribunal and asked to prove that he is an Indian citizen.
Earlier, a Foreigners Tribunal of Assam had sent notice to an ex-army serviceman in Assam, who served Indian Army for 30 years and asked to prove that he is an Indian citizen.
According to the reports, the Foreigners Tribunal no 1 of lower Assam’s Barpeta district on November 3 had sent a notice to a retired army personnel named Mahiruddin Ahmed, who served Indian army for 18 years in connection with Foreigners Tribunal case no 129/2017.
The tribunal also served another notice to the wife of the retired army personnel in different case.
Mahiruddin Ahmed had served Indian army as a Havildar (Field Ordinance Depot at Batinda in Punjab is a resident of Khablarbhita village in Barpeta district.
According to the reports, born on January 1, 1964, Mahiruddin was passed the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination conducted by SEBA in 1980 and joined Indian army on September 16, 1986 and retired from service on August 31, 2004.
It is the second incident, while Foreigners Tribunal had served notice two ex-army personnel and asked them to prove as Indian citizen.
Earlier, the foreigner’s tribunal in Assam’s Kamrup district had served notice to Mohammad Azmal Haque, who was appointed as the Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army by former President APJ Abdul Kalam and asked him to prove that he is an Indian citizen.
Later, Assam police had admitted that the whole issue was a case of mistaken identity.
