Kathmandu Nepal: At least 21 people, with dozens more hospitalized, have been confirmed dead due to consumption poisoning alcohol.
Among the deceased, fine Nepalese nationals are confirmed dead while one and half dozen others have been receiving treatment at Hospital. The deceased persons are from Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.
Though the details about the deceased are yet to confirmed, officials at the Nepali embassy in Malaysia have revealed that the death of five Nepali migrant workers confirmed till Wednesday.
According to the media reports, the number of deceased persons is expected to increase as more patients, who are receiving treatment at various hospitals, are reported to have suffered critically due to the consumption of the toxic alcohol.
As high taxes on alcohol, Cheap, homemade liquor is popular among poor, migrant workers in Muslim-majority Malaysia. Methanol, an alcohol compound used in making spurious liquor, is harmless in tiny amounts but lethal in larger concentrations.
Malaysian media have reported the statement of Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad that a total of 57 cases of methanol poisoning had been reported in Kuala Lumpur, the capital, and it’s surrounding state of Selangor.
