Kathmandu, Nepal, November 28, 2022: At least 35 people have injured in a violent clash between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Police personnel and people from the squatters settlement along the Bagmati River in Thapathali area on Monday.

It is said that fourteen KMC Police officers including the Chief Superintendent of the metropolitan police force, Raju Pandey, have been injured in the clash. Of the injured, three seriously injured police officials have been admitted in ICU beds.

The Bagmati River Basin Development Project Committee had issued a notice to evict the area by November 20. However, the squatters residing along the banks of the Bagmati River have been denying evicting the area. The people of the squatters staged demonstrations even carrying weapons to attract the KMC police officials.
