Kathmandu, Nepal, August 24, 2021: Even though the attempts are being made to stop the registration process of new party under the leadership of Madhav Kumar Nepal formalizing the split in the CPN UML, none of them have worked to woo the Nepal led dissident faction.
The Nepal led faction has denied backtracking from the decision to register a new party even though the party chairman KP Oli agreed to withdraw action against 14 UML lawmakers, including Nepal and reviving all party committees that existed before the CPN-UML's merger with the CPN (Maoist Centre) as per the 10-point unity proposal.
The leaders closed earlier to Nepal, namely Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Yubaraj Gyawali, Surendra Prasad Pandey, Bhim Acharya, Raghuji Panta, Yogesh Bhattarai and Gokarna Bista held ‘decisive’ talk with Oli over the issue of implementing the 10 point unity proposal.
The Nepal led faction has already registered an application at the Election Commission (EC) to register a new party named as CPN (United Socialist) under the leadership of Nepal.
During the meeting with the leaders formerly close to Nepal, chairman Oli had made commitment to not only to withdraw action against 14 lawmakers, including Nepal but revive all party committees that existed before the CPN-UML's merger with the CPN-Maoist Centre, claims Bhattrai.
As chairman Oli has assured that the party would treat all leaders equally without prejudice by implementing the 10-point unity proposal, there is no justification to register a new party to formalize the split; Bhattrai said hinting that he would remain in the UML if Nepal led faction register new party.
According to him, Standing Committee meeting called for Tuesday would formally endorse the 10-point unity proposal if the Nepal led faction agreed not to split the party. The meeting would appeal all leaders and cadres aligned in the Nepal led faction to join in the UML, Bhattarai said.
However, Nepal led faction has no believes that Oli would implement the 10-point proposal. As the claim made to implement the 10-point unity proposal is neither visible nor believable, we will not stop the process to register a new party, Rajendra Pandey, a leader close to Nepal said.
Responding to the application to register a new party, the EC has already summoned the central committee members of the Nepal- led faction on Wednesday to verify their signatures. It is said that the EC would register a new party once the verification process end.
