Kathmandu:  CPN UML, the main opposition party in the parliament, has rejected the Nepali Congress’s appeal to soften its stand to endorse the constitution amendment bill registered in the parliament.

The major ruling ally Nepali Congress’s  senor leaders including president Sher Bahadur Deuba and vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel had reached at the  UML chairman KP Oli's residence in Balkot with a view to convincing the latter to extend support to the 11-point constitution amendment bill recently tabled in parliament.

As the UML leaders including Oli rejected the appeal of the Nepali Congress the meeting was ended inconclusively. Despite the repeated request, UML chairman Oli had reiterated his party's stance on constitution amendment bill stating that his party would not support to passage the bill but try to foil.

The government had registered second constitution amendment bill with the view to take into confidence the agitating Madhes-centric parties in the local level elections. As agitating Madhes-centric parties have been adamantly reiterating that they will not participate in the local polls unless the amendment bill is endorsed with revision, it is likely that the government’s plan to take into confidence the agitating parties would not bear fruit due to the clinching stances of the main opposition party CPN UML.
