Kathmandu, Nepal, November 29, 2022: Withstanding the feeble presence in the November 20 federal and provincial level elections, the communist parties of Nepal, particularly the second rung leaders of the CPN UML and the CPN Maoist Center have attempted again for the leftist alliance.

The recent telephonic conversation held between the CPN UML Chairman KP Oli and the CPN Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is taken as a part of ongoing attempt to form a leftist government.

It is said that second rung leaders of both the parties have agreed to intensify their efforts to form a leftist alliance by convincing their political bosses. There is a fueling speculation that the UML leaders have already agreed to accept Maoist Chairman Dahal as the next Prime Minister of to be formed leftist government.

Considering to the high chance to be limited in the opposition bench for next five years, Oli had telephoned Dahal proposing him for the unity among the leftist forces. Though Oli had not proposed Dahal to lead the government, the motive and intention of the call was about forming a leftist government, said a UML leader close to Oli preferring anonymity.

It is said that package deal between the UML and the Maoist Centre made in 2017 is being forwarded for the leftist alliance. As per the agreement, UML’s chairman Oli had become prime minister in condition of handing over the responsibility after two and half years. However, denial of Oli to handover the responsibility to Dahal had not only dissolved the Oli-led government but separated the two parties into the previous form.

It is said that UML Chair Oli could accept second half term as prime minister of the next government, if his party gets the post of Speaker or the President. According to the source, the second rung leaders namely as Bishnu Poudel and Prithivi Subba Gurung of UML and Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Dev Gurung of Maoist Center have been discussion about the prospects of leftist alliance and possible package deal.
