Kathmandu, Nepal, September 20, 2022:Prime Minister and president of the ruling head Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal called on President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday evening after she did not authenticate the citizenship bill even a day before the deadline to issue the bill expires.

In the separate meeting held at latter’s office at Sital Niwas, the Prime Minister Deuba and CPN Maoist Chairman Dahal reminded the constitutional provision regarding the authentication of the bill. It is said that Prime Minister Deuba and Dahal suggested the President not to breach the constitutional provision by not authenticating the bill.

As per the constitutional provision, the president has to authenticate a bill endorsed by parliament within 15 days. Though the 15 days long deadline is going to elapse on Tuesday, President has neither authenticated the bill nor made any decision till late Monday evening.

Earlier, president Bhandari had returned the citizenship bill with a 15-point suggestion to parliament asking the latter to review it. The parliament, however, re-sent it to Sheetal Niwas without making any changes in it.  President has already expressed her discontent for not even discussing in the parliament over the suggestions.
