Kathmandu, Nepal: The leadership clash that has been prevailing in the CPN UML since long period has surfaced again after a section of the party, particularly the Prime Minister and party chairman KP Oli led faction, intended to continue the President Bidya Devi Bhandari for the next term of office.
As the party leadership did not initiated discussions to pick the candidate for the post of the president notwithstanding the approaching deadline to hold the presidential election, the UML leaders, particularly the aspirants of the post, have a presumption that party Chair and Primer Oli would have intended to continue the incumbent president Bhandari for the next term.
The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled the presidential elections for March 13. But none of the legitimate forums of the UML have discussed over the issue of presidential candidate.
Both the largest communist parties had agreed to keep the Presidential post in the UML in return of handing over the post of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the Maoist Center.
It was believed that the post will be handed over either to the senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal or Bamdev Gautam respecting the principle of sharing the coveted posts among the senior leaders of the party.
Even though the another senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has stayed out of the ring from the race for the presidential post with intent to get the executive posts like Prime Minister or Party Chair, he and his led faction does not have intention to continue the incumbent President for the next term.
