Kathmandu, Nepal, April 20, 2020: Internal rift of the ruling head Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has reached in the climax after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli ‘unilaterally’ passed an ordinance amending the existing provision of splitting a political party.
As a Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday took a decision that any political party can be split by attaining a 40 percent majority in either parliamentary party or the central committee, internal tussle among the top leaders of the party, particularly among the chairs duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have come into surface.
Taking the decision as a clear sigh to split the party, Dahal , who is also the executive chairperson of the party, called an emergency meeting among the cabinet members representing to the formerly CPN Maoist Center at his residence to discuss over the issue.
According to s source at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli took the decision in the capacity of the executive head despite objection from some cabinet members like Barsha Man Pun, Ghana Shyam Bhusal and others.
The provision has eased the process to split the party. As per the existing provision, a party can be split only if there is 40 percent majority in both parliamentary party and central committee.
