Kathmandu, Nepal: The Election Commission (EC) has on Sunday has denied the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N)’s demand for new election symbol for the third round of local level elections on September 18.
A meeting of the EC held on Sunday made the decision over the RJPN’s demand for the new elections symbol. The RJPN had registered its party in the EC demanding umbrella as an election symbol.
As the RJPN was a coalition of six Madhes-based political parties, it has to pick an election symbol used by one of the parties in previous elections. The EC has given a green signal to pick a election symbol that any one of the six Madhes based parties had picked earlier.
With the decision, it is being feared that the RJPN would divided further over the issue of elections particularly of the issue of election symbol.
