Kathmandu, Nepal, December 1, 2020: All armory used to defeat each other by the rival factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) likely to put on hold for a time being. As both the factions have no guts to split the party and to stay apart from the power of government, the ongoing rivalry of the party likely to move towards the reconciliation.

Though the dissident faction led by executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been formulating a strategy to compel another chairperson and Prime Minister KP Shrma Oli to limit in a post by exerting pressure from the party committees’ decisions, it has backtracked from the plan to sack-out Oli from the posts on the basis of the majorities.

Likewise, Oli led faction has also adopted a strategy to linger the party meetings just to linger his positions in the pretext of reconciliation, thanks to the situation that he has lost majority in all the party committees.

It is likely that Oli would call meetings of the standing committee, central committee and the parliamentary in a gradual basis even if the ongoing secretariat meeting made decision against of his interests through the majority votes.  In the nine member secretariat, four members have stand in favor of Oli including himself.

Oli, who had already showed signs for the reconciliation by demanding discussion on policy issues, is preparing to pitch for a joint proposal with party co-chair Dahal hoping to take both the documents to the standing committee, the central committee and the parliamentary party if necessary.

The leaders close to Oli, particularly Subas Chandra Nembang, the deputy parliamentary party leader of the NCP, has been lobbying hard to present a joint proposal of two co-chairpersons in the ongoing secretariat meeting.

The secretariat meeting of the party is scheduled for today (Tuesday). Reliable source close to the party, however, claims that there is no possibility to present a joint proposal on Tuesday’s meeting. The secretariat meeting of Tuesday would decide whether to make a joint proposal or not, a standing committee member, who claims himself as loyal to Oli, said preferring anonymity.

The ongoing rivalry of the party had been pushing the party at the verge to vertical split after executive chairman Dahal presented a 19-page proposal in the Secretariat meeting accusing Oli of defying party norms and rules and failing to run the government. Likewise, Oli had also presented a 38-page denial proposal even raising questions marks over Dahal’s proposal.
