Kathmandu, Nepal, August 18, 2021: Finally, the main opposition party CPN-UML has split after dissident faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal registered a new party at the Election Commission on Wednesday. 

Soon after President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued the ordinance to amend the Political Parties Act 2071, as many as 68 central committee member of the UML including leader Nepal reached at the Election Commission register a new party.
 
An application has been registered at the Election Commission to register the new party as CPN UML (Socialist) with election symbol as open book. 

As the Nepal led faction had already split technically, the government had recommended the President to issue the ordinance easing out the process that at least 20 per cent of the parliamentary party and the central committee of a political party can split their party.
