Kathmandu, Nepal, May 27, 2021:  Four former chief justices of the Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, have criticized the Prime Minister KP Oli for failing to respect the spirit of apex court verdict by dissolving parliament for a second time.

Issuing a joint statement on Friday, four former chief justices- Meen Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anoop Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki have alleged the Prime Minister Oli for going against the letter and spirit of the constitution and democracy.

The verdict of the SC to reinstate parliament has not only made meaningless but misused the Article 76 of the constitution by the Prime Minister Oli to meet his vested interests, the four former Chief justices have alleged.

The constitution, democracy and moral discretion do not allow the Prime Minister for staying in power even after he lost a vote of confidence in parliament, states the statement adding that such an act has increased threats to finish off democracy and law.

The statement of four former Chief Justices is taken importantly from different sectors as it has come at the time when the SC is hearing about two and half down cases filed against the dissolution of the parliament.
