Kathmandu, Nepal June 7, 2022: The government has decided to revoke its earlier decision to enforce two-day a week public holiday provision.
A cabinet meeting held on Monday took the decision to this effect. With the decision, there will be a public holiday only on Saturday from June 15.
The government had enforced two-day a week public holiday on May 9 on the name of reducing fuel consumption owing to the fast depleting foreign currency reserves. The decision to enforce two-day public holiday rule, however, was widely criticized from different sectors.
Earlier today, a writ petition was also filed in the Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, demanding cancelation of the government’s decision to grant two days public holidays a week.
Advocates Ram Bahadur Shahi, Tej Bahadur Lohia, Santosh Bhandari and Trilok Bahadur Chand moved to the SC to file a writ petition demanding immediate revoke the decision.
