Pokhara, Nepal, May 12, 2021:  Prithvi Subba Gurung has again been appointed as the chief minister of Gandaki Province on the basis of parliamentary party leader of the largest political party in the Province Assembly.

Though the Nepali Congress leader Krishna Chandra Pokharel had claimed the post in the backing of the four political parties, Province Governor Sita Paudel reappointed Gurung claiming that the former one has no majority votes in the provincial assembly.

Article 168(3) of the Constitution of Nepal has made a provision that the provincial governor can appoint the parliamentary party leader of the largest political party in the Province Assembly if there is no single majority of any political party or two or more parties fail to secure majority votes in the Provincial Assembly.

NC leader Pokharel had presented the name of majority of lawmakers including Krishna Bahadur Thapa and Khim Bikram Shahi who are belonging to Rashtriya Janamorcha. But they issued separate statements latter on Wednesday stating that they were not part of any of the alliances to form and dissolve the government.

Gurung had earlier resigned from the post after the opposition parties filed a vote of no-confidence in the provincial assembly. The Rashtriya Janamorcha had officially decided to vote in favor of new provincial government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress.
