Kathmandu, Nepal: following obstruction by the CPN-UML lawmakers, the meeting of the Legislature Parliament scheduled for Monday has been adjourned till 1 pm on Sunday.
The House meeting was adjourned after lawmakers from the main opposition party- CPN UML- gathered at the well to protest against the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki as soon as Speaker Onsari Gharti announced the commencement of the meeting.
Though Speaker Gharti had earlier had a discussion with top leaders of major three parties regarding the House business and the impeachment motion, the meeting had failed to make any headway due to the rigid stand of the UML leaders.
UML leaders have been clinching on the stand that the impeachment motion registered in the parliament against of the Chief Justice Sushila Karki should be withdrawn. The party has a claim that the impeachment motion has tarnished the image of the independence of the judiciary.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli along with the chief whips of the three major parties were present in the meeting held at the chamber of speaker Gharti.
249 lawmakers from the government allies- Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Center had filed an impeachment motion against CJ Karki on April 30.
