Kathmandu, Nepal, August 17, 2021: Ongoing sessions of the federal parliament- House of Representtives (HoR) and Upper House have been prorogued by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on the recommendation of the government on Monday.
A cabinet meeting held earlier on Monday decided to recommend the president Bhandari to prorogue the federal parliament. As President endorsed the government’s recommendation, HoR Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the end of the meeting reading out the letter received from the Office of the President.
The ongoing session of the federal parliament had begun from July 18 after Supreme Court (SC) ordered to reinstate the dissolved parliament. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had bagged vote of confidence from the first meeting of the HoR.
The House session has been ended just after 29 days of function. Altogether 10 meetings held during the period. As the government has to pass some bills from the parliament, some critics, particularly the main opposition CPN UML has criticized the government’s move to prorogue the house session.
It is alleged that the government would have prorogued the parliament to introduce ordinance including the ordinance related to the political parties to ease out the process to break the party.
