Kathmandu, Nepal, April 5, 2021: India's Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed as the foreign secretary of India.  According to the media reports, appointment of committee of the cabinet approved the appointment of Kwatra to the post of Foreign Secretary of India on Monday. 

The newly appointed Indian Foreign Secretary Kwatra will replace incumbent Foreign Secretary Harsha Vardan Shringla, who is retiring on April 30.

The appointment of India’s ambassador to Nepal as the foreign secretary of India is taken importantly as the announcement has come just a day after the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba returned concluding his three-day official visit to India.

Newly appointed Indian Foreign secretary Kwatra used to be considered as experienced diplomats including on Nepal issues. He has an experience of nearly 30 years in the Indian Foreign Service. According to the media reports, he had joined the service in 1988. 

Prior to appointing as Indian ambassador to Nepal, Kwatra had served as Joint Secretary in the office of the Prime Minister of India.
