Kathmandu, Nepal, January 09, 2022: Newly-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR) from the November 20 elections held last year sat for the first time on Monday. Three political parties namely the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Janamat Party (JP)and Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) have reached the parliament for the first time.


Addressing the first meeting of the new Parliament, top leaders of the parties represent in the HoR raised ranges of issues univocally stressing on controlling of corruption, mentioning of political stability and effectively implementing of federalism and many others.

Addressing the parliament, Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal vowed for mentioning good governance to fulfill the aspiration of the people as per the spirit of the change. 

‘This parliament session is going to be a litmus test for us that whether we will be able to provide good governance and bring meaningful changes in the public’s lives,’ Prime Minister Dahal said.  

Terming the new parties as the new assets of the Parliament, Dahal said ‘without jealousy, I want to say it is a victory of democracy and citizen sovereignty.’ He also underlined the need of cooperation among the political parties for the betterment of the nation and the people.  

Nepali Congress (NC) president Sher Bahadur Deuba congratulated the newly appointed Prime Minister Dahal, newly introduced political parties and the newly-elected members of the HoR saying that expectation of the people and need of the nation will be fulfilled from the HoR.

Being the president of the largest party in the Parliament, Deuba, who is also former Prime Minister and PP leader of the NC, reiterated his commitment to play a constructive role in the legislature.

CPN-UML chairman KP Oli appealed all parties to work together to give political stability and mentioning of good governance in the country. During his speech, he defended his move to dissolve the parliament during his tenure as Prime Minister. 

The newly-formed RSP chairman and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane underlined the need of working as per the spirit of change and aspiration of the people. He has a saying that emergence of his party in not due to the frustration of people from old parties but expectation of people from them.  

CPN (Unified Socialist) chair Madhav Kumar Nepal underlined the need of moving forward by learning lesion from the past mistakes. He had a saying that parties should not indulge only on the game of forming and dissolving the government.  

Another newly formed Janamat Party’s chair CK Raut underscored the importance of federalism in protecting the country’s integrity.

Another newly formed Nagarik Unmukti Party chair Ranjita Shrestha demanded release of her spouse Resham Chaudhary and other Tharu leaders convicted in the 2015 Tikapur incident. 

Janata Samajbadi Party’s parliamentary leader Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav focussed on the need of implementation of the Constitution to institutionalize the federal democratic system.
