Kathmandu, Nepal, July 26, 2-22: The leftist forces including the allies of the incumbent government namely as CPN Maoist Center and the CPN United Socialist have intensified their efforts either to forge a leftist alliance or to be united in a single party targeting to the upcoming elections for the House of Representatives (HoR) and the provincial assembly.
Even though no basis is found yet even to forge electoral alliance among the leftist forces, efforts are being intensified to unite all the leftist forces including the main opposition party CPN UML on the name of Socialist Center.
Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhatttrai, who is now in the process of forming a new party after Janata Sajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal expelled him and his loyalties and CPN UML’s dissident leader Bam Dev Gautam are also being incorporated it the proposed socialist center.
Discussions are being held in bilateral and trilateral levels with the aim to forge electoral alliance even if the party unity do not become possible immediately, a leader of the Maoist Center close to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said preferring anonymity.
The leaders from the Maoist Center and the United Socialist have taken extra initiations to forge electoral alliance among the leftist forces at the time when it has also been bargaining with the ruling head Nepali Congress for sharing of seats in the upcoming elections.
The Nepali Congress (NC) recently took a decision to forge electoral alliance with the ruling allies through its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting. The ruling head NC made the decision as the ruling allies, particularly the Maoist Center and the United Socialist, repeatedly sought its commitment about forging of electoral alliance with them in the upcoming elections.
As the Maoist Center and the United Socialist have been openly making efforts to forge leftist alliance against of the Nepali Congress despite its commitment for the electoral alliance, the leaders of the Nepali Congress seems skeptical with them. The establishment faction of the Nepali Congress had become success to take the decision to forge electoral alliance despite strong reservation from the dissident faction.
The dissident faction had been repeatedly stating that the Nepali Congress should not forge electoral alliance with the leftist forces. As the Maoist Center had forged electoral alliance with the UML during the last elections for the HoR and the provincial assembly even though it had forged electoral alliance in the local level elections held prior to the elections, same fate would be replicated again as casted suspicion by the dissident faction of the Nepali Congress.
