Kathmandu, Nepal: Maghe Shakranti, which is also known as the Maghi and Makar Shakranti, is observed with much more fanfare in different parts of the country on Monday.
People who follow the Hindu religion, particularly the Tharu community marks the day as of greatest festival. Maghi is the biggest festival of Tharu community as the indigenous community of Nepal Marked the day as the beginning of New Year.
People from Tharu community thronged at Tudikhel, Kathmandu, on Monday to mark their annual festival Maghi. Various cultural programs were organized at Tundikhel in the presence of various high profile personalities including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Inaugurating the Maghi festive organized by the Tharu Welfare Service Committee on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti at Tundikhel in Kathmandu, Primer Deuba said that constitution of Nepal has guaranteed the rights of all communities, indigenous nationalities and religions.
Similarly, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari organized an informal tea-party at her office, Sitalniwas on Monday on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti. On the occasion, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and many others VVIPs were invited.
