Kathmandu, Nepal, October 5, 2021: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has written a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday to take diplomatic initiatives to settle the border issues with northern neighbor China.

The MoHa has written the letter to the MoFA as part of implementing the recommendation made by Jaya Narayan Acharya-led panel.

The government had on August 21 formed the panel under the leadership of Acharya, joint-secretary at the MoHA, to study the boundary issues along the Nepal-China border, particularly in Humla district.

Though the government has not made public the report officially, it is stated that the panel has recommended the government to form a joint boundary inspection team to address the boundary issues between Nepal and China in line with the Nepal-China Joint Boundary Treaty.

The panel had submitted its report to the Home Minister Balkrishna Khand last Sunday suggesting that a joint boundary inspection team has to be formed comprising experts from Nepal and China to settle the boundary issues between the two neighboring countries.

Nepal and China had signed in the Boundary Treaty first on October 5, 1961. Then King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah and chairman of the People’s Republic of China, Liu Shai-Chi had signed in the treaty.

The treaty was signed following the Sino-Nepal Boundary Agreement made on March 21, 1960. Then Prime Minister of Nepal Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and his Chinese counterpart Chou En-lai had signed in the agreement.

It is stated that some boundary pillars in Humla district have found repaired and fenced without the knowledge of the Nepali side.
