Kathmandu, Nepal, January 09, 2022: As the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is all set to secure vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday, the largest party in the parliament, the Nepali Congress (NC), has fall in dilemma on whether to support the Dahal led new government or stay in the opposition bench.

The NC is holding its Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting on Tuesday morning to decide whether or not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal.

Prime Minister Dahal reached at Dhumbarahi based Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s resident on Monday evening to solicit the support of the NC.

Responding to Prime Minister Dahal, NC President Deuba, who is also the PP leader, said that his party will take a decision whether to support the new government after the PP meeting. Prime Minister Dahal spent about one hour with NC leaders including President Deuba.

NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka and leader Krishna Prasad Situala were also present when Prime Minister Dahal held a meeting with Deuba. It is said that most of the leaders loyal to Deuba, including Khadka and Sitaula have been insisting that NC has to support Dahal. They have a saying that the NC can stay in the opposition bench even after voting in favor of government.

The party president Deuba led establishment faction of the NC, which holds grips in the party and the PP, has conviction that supporting Dahal may prove to be a strategic gesture and benefit the party at the time when division emerge among the ruling allies, particularly the CPN UML and the Maoist over the issue of sharing the powers.

However, the dissident faction has already hinted that Nepali Congress should not support to the government but stay in the opposition bench. Speaking to the media persons, NC general secretary Gagan Thapa said that the NC has to stay in the opposition stating that staying in opposition is also opportunity to the party to strengthen the parliamentary values.
