Kathmandu, Nepal, February 27, 2023: The Nepali Congress (NC), the largest party in the parliament, has urged the second largest party CPN UML to support to its presidential candidate Ram Chandra Paudel.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has sent a letter to the CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli on Monday urging him to vote for the NC’s presidential candidate Paudel.

In the presidential election that is already scheduled for March 9, two candidates- Poudel from the NC and Sunash Chandra Nemwang from the CPN UML have filed their candidacy.

The NC has formally urged the UML to this effect rightly after the latter decided to quit the government and withdraw its support to the Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda-led government.

The request made by the NC for the support to its presidential candidate is taken cautiously from different sectors. This is also widespread suspicion that the NC and the UML would join hands by forging alliance to oust the Maoist Center from the government.

The relations between the UML and the Maoist Center got soured after Maoist Center did not agree to vote to the UML’s presidential candidate. Following the mounting differences that led to forge eight parties alliance including of NC, Maoist Center and others, the UML quitted the government.
