Kathmandu, Nepal, January 31, 2023: US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, who came here in Kathmandu on Sunday for two day official visit, has said that the US wants Nepal to take sovereign decision on the issues of its national interests.
Speaking at a press conference organized on Monday before warping up her visit to Nepal, the US Under-Secretary, Nuland said Nepali has to protect its national sovereignty by dealing with neighbors and other development partners.
‘US would welcome Nepal's friendly relations with its neighboring countries,’ Nuland said adding as ‘the US wants to make its collaboration and strong economic relation with Nepal.’
The first ever highest level visit made from the US after the formation of the new government under the leadership of the CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is taken importantly not only to strengthen the bilateral relationship but also for the effective implementation of various US-funded projects including the projects under Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Agreement in Nepal.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Dr Bimala Rai Poudel, we hold discussion on various issues of bilateral interests, she said.
According to her discussions were held on the issues including next step of the implementation of MCC, transitional justice process, and building environment to increase US investment in Nepal.
I am proud to inform about the US support in Nepal's green energy, electrification, small and middle-scale women enterprises for next five years in addition of ongoing support and collaborating in education, health, agriculture, tourism and economic sectors as well as strengthening democracy.
