Kathmandu, Nepal, December 14, 2021: Even though the Prime Minister and incumbent party president of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba maintained the lead in the election held for the post of new president for the next four year term, he failed to get more than 50 percent of the votes to secure the post as per the party statute.
As per the statue, party president has to get more than fifty percent votes to secure the post. Second round of voting is scheduled for today with the aim to bring result by today itself.
Of the total 4,679 votes casted in the election, Deuba got 2,258 votes; just 82 votes short to win the election as president of the NC. In the election, Dr Shekhar Koirala got 1,729 votes, Prakash Man Singh received 371 votes, Bimalendra Nidhi got 249 votes and Kalyan Gurung got just 20 votes.
