Kathmandu, Nepal, February 22, 2021: A office-bearers’ meeting of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (SC) held on Thursday at party president Shar Bahadur Deuba’s Budhanilkantha based resident to discuss on contemporary political issues emerged after the reinstatement of the dissolved parliament.

As rival factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have been approaching the NC to form a coalition government, the meeting was called to take a decision to this effect.

Though the party has yet to take the decision whether to make a coalition with the NCP or to stay in the opposition, the leaders seem deviated over the issue of joining in the government.  Some influential leaders of the party have suggested the party leadership not to make a coalition with the NCP but to stay in the opposition bench till the next elections.

Earlier on Wednesday, chairpersons of the Dahal-Nepal faction of NCP, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal had met the NC President Deuba to propose to form a coalition government. Responding the concerns of the faction, he had said that party would take official decision over the issue only after holding discussion in the party’s legitimate mechanism.
