Kathmandu, Nepal, December 25, 2020: The effect of dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) of the federal parliament in center has now shifted into the provincial assemblies triggering a fear of dissolution of the provincial governments.

Provincial assembly members close to the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has on Friday filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister (CM) of Bagmati Province, Dormani Poudel.

As CM Poudel was is close to the Prime Minister KP Oli-led faction of the NCP, a group of 45 provincial assembly members led by Shalik Ram Jamakattel filed the no-confidence motion against CM Poudel at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat in Hetauda on Friday morning.

Following the registration of no-confidence motion, Jamakattel, who is Interior Affairs Minister of the provincial government, resigned from the post.  Other ministers, who have tendered their resignation along with Jamakattel, include Industry Minister Arun Nepal and Social Development Minister Yubaraj Dulal. JamaKattel and Dulal are close to Pushpa Kamal Dahal while Nepal is close to Madhav Kumar Nepal.

As the ruling NCP has only 80 members in the 110-member provincial assembly, CM Poudel would automatically fall into minority in the provincial assembly.

It is likely that other provinces particularly the province number 1, Gandaki province and Lumbini province would face the similar fate as of the Bagmati province as Oli led faction is in minority in these provinces.
