Kathmandu, Nepal, December 23, 2022: Notorious criminal Charles Sobhraj has been released from the central jail in Kathmandu on Friday. Following the release process are underway to deport him to his home country, France.
The Department of Immigration (DoI) is going to deport Charles Sobhraj, who is known as the serpent’ and ‘the bikini killer’, on its own cost.
The Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, had on Wednesday ordered the Nepal government and the authorities concerned to release and return to his country, France, within 15 days.
A joint bench of Justices Sapna Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha passed the order exempting him from imprisonment.
He was arrested in Nepal in 2003 for the murder of American citizen Connie Joe Bronzich and Canadian citizen Laurent Armand Carriere in 1975. District Court Bhaktapur had slapped a life imprisonment on Sobhraj.
