Kathmandu, Nepal: The much hyped meeting of the Party Unification Coordination Committee of the two leftist parties—CPN UML and CPN Maoist Center, ended with no results, thanks to the differences over ranges of issues including the political ideology of to be united party.
It was believed that the committee meeting held at CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s Balkot, Bhaktapur based resident would form a committee to prepare a common document on the political and ideological issues to settle the ideological differences of to be united party.
But it could not happen due to the objection of the UML leaders that Maoism would not be acceptable as of the political ideology of to be united party. The meeting was held in the presence of CML Chair Oli and CPN Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Despite the heated debate over the ideology of to be united party, the meeting however, endorsed a report prepared on the formation of province government, chief ministers, speakers and deputy speakers.
As senior leaders from both the parties including CPN-UML Chairman Oli, CPN Maoist Chairman Dahal, senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice-Chairman Bam Dev Gautam and General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel, CPN Maoist Center’s Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and many others participated in the meeting, it was believed that the meeting would settle existing differences seen among the two parties.
Though the two major leftist parties of the country had vowed to unite the parties even before formation of the new government, ranges of issues including the issue of division of powers has hampered to conclude the unity process.
It is likely that unity among the two parties would not possible before formation of the government leaving sufficient space to suspect that the two leftist forces would not unite even if they formed unity government.
