Pokhara, Nepal, June 12, 2021: Parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) in Gandaki Province Krishna Chandra Pokhrel Nepali has been appointed as the Chief Minister (CM) of Gandaki Province.
Gandaki Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel Appointed Pokhrel as the CM of the province as per the as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Pokhrel had on Friday staked claim in the post with majority support of the parliament. CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and an independent lawmaker Rajib Gurung aka Deepak Manange are backing Pokhrel as CM to form a new coalition government at the province.
It is said that Pokharel will be administered the oath of office and secrecy on Saturday evening.
As immediate past CM Prithvi Subba Gurung lost a confidence motion on Thursday, Governor Poudel called upon the members of the provincial assembly to stake their claim to the formation of a new government.
