Kathmandu, Nepal, September 6, 2022: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has conferred the insignia of the honorary rank of general of the Nepali Army to the Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army General Manoj Pande amid function at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.

As per the practice followed since seven decade of decorating army chiefs of each other’s country with the honorary title, a sword, insignia and a certificate of conferment order were presented to General Pande by the president during the ceremony.

Indian Army chief KM Cariappa was the first to be decorated with the title in 1950.  In last November, Chief of Army Staff, General Prabhu Ram Sharma was also made the Honorary General of the Indian Army by President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony in New Delhi.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, cabinet ministers, high ranking government employees including Nepal Army officials, Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and among others presented.

Pande is on a five-day visit to Nepal at the official invitation of Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma. During his five-day visit to Nepal, he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Deuba at 3:00 pm on Tuesday. He is also scheduled to viting the Pashupatinath Temple, Muktinath Temple and others. 

Meanwhile, the Chief of Indian Army, General Manoj Pande has handed over military equipment worth Rs 223 million to the Nepali Army (NA) as assistance. Prior to the handover of in-kind assistance, General Pande held a meeting with CoAS Sharma at the Army Headquarters. He also received a guard of honor presented by a contingent of the NA today morning.
