Kathmandu, Nepal, January 27, 2022: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has undermined the need of national consensus while electing the president.
Prime Minister Dahal, who is also the CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman, said so while addressing the party’s Standing Committee (SC) meeting that began in the capital on Thursday.
According to him national consensus on the presidential candidate is must for balancing of power in the state mechanism. It is important to think about the situation of tomorrow before making any decision, Dahal said.
As we have already given the post of speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) to the UML and UML Chairman KP Oli will be prime minister after two years as per our deal, we have to think seriously about the possible situation if the post of the president was given to the UML, Dahal said at the meeting.
Prime Minister Dahal’s has reiterated his stand on forging national consensus while electing the president at the time when the major coalition partner, UML has been staking claim for the post of president referring to the so-called deal and understanding made with the Maoist Center while appointing its Chairperson Dahal as the President.
