Kathmandu, Nepal, October 21, 2020: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has defended his decision to dissolve the parliament claiming that he was forced to take the decision to dissolve parliament.
‘I was forced to dissolve parliament for a fresh mandate after plan was made to file a vote of no-confidence motion against my government, Prime Minister Oli said while addressing the nation on Monday.
I had no alternative to dissolve the parliament for fresh mandate after conspiracies were hatched against the government not to functioning well, he said. The step was taken in response to the act of selfishness of some power-hungry leaders within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) that had been broiling since long, he said pointing finger to the dissident leaders of the arty.
During his address, he also claimed that the government has done well in terms of safeguarding the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty despite the internal rift that had severely affected the government's functioning.
‘Some leaders constantly made efforts to head the nation towards instability even though the government had started working as per public’s aspirations, Prime Minister Oli said ‘I decided to dissolve parliament for fresh mandate after the elected government under my leadership was pushed to a corner not allowing to work at all through various means.
‘The move to dissolve the parliament to go for a fresh public mandate one and half years before elections could be seen as an abrupt step but it was my compulsion to safeguard the dignity of the government and the nation,’ Prime Minister Oli said adding that the leaders of other faction should be held responsible for creating this situation by going against the people's mandate and their will.
During his address he also urged one and all to make preparations for midterm elections that have been scheduled for April 30 and May 10.
