Kathmandu, Nepal, January 18, 2022: The long-standing debates on naming Province 2 and designating its capital have been settled after assembly meeting of the province named Madhesh Pradesh as name and Janakpur as Provincial capital on Monday.

The proposal to name Madhas Pradesh and fixing Jankpur as Provincial capital was endorsed by two-thirds majority votes. Out of the 99 members of the provincial assembly participated in the voting process, 80 members voted in favor of naming the province as Madhes while 78 had voted in favor of keeping Janakpur as the capital.

Elating from the overwhelming support to name as Madhes Pradesh and Jankpur as its capital, the provincial government has declared a public holiday in the province today (Tuesday).

The provincial government has announced a public holiday on January 18 to celebrate the decision of the provincial assembly of naming the province as Madhes and with Janakpur as its capital, spokesperson of the government Shailendra Prasad Sah, who is also the Finance Minister, said.
