Kathmandu, Nepal: the newly formed Rastriya Janata Nepal (RJPN) has reached on the verge to split over the issue of agitation launched against of the second phase of local level elections even after the government decided to postpone the elections in province number 2.
As the party has decided to continue the protest even after the government postponed polls in Province 2, not only the leadership in center but also the local leaders and cadres of the party have insisted for withdrawing all the protest programs. The division mindset in the local level has compelled the party leadership in center to reconsider the decision or face a vertical split in the party.
As party decision to continue the protest has triggered serious internal disputes in the party, either we have to correct the decision immediately or split in the local level as most of the local leaders want to participate in the elections, a leader said preferring anonymity.
Some leaders of the party had hinted that they would take part in the June 28 local polls if the election was postponed in province number 2. However, the RJPN had announced its protest program against of the elections claiming that it will not participate but disturb it. The party has already made public the protest program targeting to disturb the protest program.
According to the leader, party coordinator Mahanta Thakur and Sharad Singh Bhandari are in favor of withdrawing the protests while Rajendra Mahato and Raj Kishor Yadav are for continuing. Mahendra Yadav, another leaders of the party is also in favor of compromise rather than continue the protest program for a indefinite period.
