Kathmandu, Nepal: Following the recent incident in Sunsari, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has instructed party lawmakers representing Koshi and Madhesh provinces to return to their respective districts and constituencies and play an active role in maintaining social harmony.
During an emergency meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Lamichhane briefed lawmakers about the developments after the Sunsari incident and urged them to work at the local level to prevent tension and strengthen coordination among communities.
According to RSP lawmaker Rahabar Ansari, Lamichhane directed lawmakers to avoid limiting their role to discussions in Kathmandu and instead engage directly with people in their respective areas.
"He instructed us to take ownership of the situation and return to our districts and constituencies to play a coordinating role in maintaining social harmony," Ansari said. "He emphasized that lawmakers should begin spreading the message of harmony from here and take it to villages and communities. If any external forces attempt to create hatred or disturb social peace, all lawmakers have a responsibility to help prevent such efforts."
Ansari said RSP lawmakers would now return to their respective districts and work in coordination with government agencies and local stakeholders to help maintain peace and social stability.
Expressing sadness over the shooting and loss of life in Sunsari, Ansari said such incidents were tragic and should not be allowed to damage social unity.
"The loss of life due to the shooting is deeply regrettable," he said. "Disruption of social harmony is a collective challenge. If we work together to protect the unity of the country, everyone will remain safer."
The RSP leadership has emphasized the need to prevent misinformation, hatred, and activities that could disturb social harmony following the Sunsari incident. Lamichhane has also called for maintaining peace and resolving disputes through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The party has decided to mobilize its lawmakers at the local level, with a focus on dialogue, coordination, and cooperation with relevant authorities to help reduce tensions and rebuild public confidence in affected areas.
