Kathmandu, Nepal, January 27, 2022: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has on Friday resigned from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs after the Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, stripped him his position as member of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Following the verdict from the SC, Lamichhane tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his official resident at Baluwatar on Friday evening. I have resigned from the post abiding by the verdict of SC, Lamichhane said while briefly commenting to the media persons.

The Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, stripped the post Rabi Lamichhane as the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday.

With the verdict, the post of Lamichhane as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Home Minister Affairs (MoHP) was automatically dismissed.

A five member constitutional bench formed under the Chairmanship of Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki made the verdict on Friday finding him guilty in the citizenship and passport case.

As Lamichhane had not initiated a process to take Nepali citizenship certificate after renouncing the US citizenship, his post as the HoR would not remain, the SC constitutional bench has stated in the verdict.

Following the election of Lamichhane as HoR member form the Chitawan Constituency 2, advocate Rabi Raj Basaula and others had filed a writ petition at the SC arguing that he is not qualified to become HoR.
