Kathmandu, Nepal, August 23, 2022: The five ruling allies- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) CPN (United Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha have faced challenges to finalize seat- sharing deal though they had already reached an agreement for the electoral alliance in the upcoming federal and provincial assembly elections slated for coming November 20.
As the task force formed under the leadership of Nepali Congress (NC) leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula to allocate seats for the upcoming elections failed to complete its task, the responsibility has now landed to the top leaders of the ruling allies to materialize the decision to forge electoral alliance by managing the seat-sharing differences among the coalition partners.
The ruling allies have failed even to setup the criteria over the division of seats among themselves. A meeting among the top leaders of the ruling allies held on Monday also failed to setup the criteria over the division of seats. It is said that the meeting would be continued even on Tuesday.
As the decision to forge electoral alliance among the ruling allies rose hope to win the elections, high number of aspirants to contest in the elections has posed difficulties to the top leaders to come up in the compromise over the seat-sharing deal. The number of seats in the House of Representatives (HoR) is 165, but the demands put forth by the ruling partners have already exceeded more than 2010.
Not only the seat-sharing issues but also the management of leaders who intend to contest in the elections from the same constituency has also posed challenge to reach on the conclusion. Though the top leaders have tentatively agreed upon to leave the constituency to those parties which had either won the election or secured majority of seats, this formula would not be applicable in all constituencies.
